Imagine the “Shrinking/Growing Head” Illusion…now a close-up KILLER! In the realm of close-up magic, it could have infinite possibilities!
This hilarious optical illusion was first described by Scientist Joseph Plateau in 1849. It was introduced to the Magic world by Bruce Kalver and later, the image was trisected by Jerry Andrus for a “warping” effect.
However, most seem to be trying to make it bigger and bigger for larger audiences. We decided to think small…up-close and personal.
CARD EFFECT: A spectator’s selected card is returned to the deck. You then pull out your “Whirlygig;” a pocket-sized disc and spin it on the table.
The spectator is asked to focus on the red dot in the center of the disc and not look away. “Five. Four. Three. Two. One…Look at the deck!”
Right before their eyes, the back design of the deck seems to shrink!
“That’s just an illusion, though. My job is to make illusions become real.” With that, you thumb through the cards, finding one card that is still full size, but it’s BACK has shrunk.
Turning it over reveals the shrunken face of their chosen card!
That’s just one of the many possible card, coin, dice and sponge ball effects explained in the DVD. No sleight of hand necessary…unless you want to.
